Comments about C3000 Automatic Dry Food Pet Feeder:
I purchased the Catmate 3000 after trying and returning a different brand of auto feeder (two of them failed) from another seller. It's used to feed a couple of feral cats at my job (trap, neuter, vaccinate, release). It's been in service for two week as of 12/27/12 and has proved itself to be reliable. More reliable than me feeding them only occasionally because of days off or I'm delayed by a snow storm. I also own a Cat-Mate 20, and it's also very reliable but it only does two feedings.
The cats get wet food on work days and sometimes they come out of hiding to visit. It sure seems like they understand I'm trying to help them. They appear to love the auto feeder. It's magic!
I don't use the frequent feed, advanced feed, manual feed or extra feed options so I'm sorry I can't comment on them. I only use it to feed three times a day, everyday and only enough food to be eaten by sundown.
A wooden box was built around it with a hindge door to keep the raccoons from getting into it (see photos). One screw hold the door closed. However a mouse has figured out how to get to the food by climbing up the tube, but gets only a few kibble at a time. I'm waiting for the cats to discover him one night.
Programming is easy after you done it once or twice. To deny the raccoons food (they feed at night), I had to reprogram the feeder a few times to dial in the amount food and feeding times to be sure there wasn't too little food or too much food by the end of day.
I like the fact you can turn off the feeder without having to reprogram it. You can also change the batteries without reprogramming if you do it within 60 seconds. I can't comment yet on battery life, but premium brand alkaline batteries (4 x size C) are recommended by the manufacturer. On other equipment, I find rechargeable Ni-MH batteries don't keep a charge as long as good quality non-rechargeable, especially in the cold. Also note the low battery indicator on the feeder only works with non-rechargeable alkaline batteries.
I'm very happy with this machine. Wag.com shipping was very quick and arrived just in time because I had to take five days off work for my mother's funeral. I monitor the feeding station with a wildlife camera so I know the feeder worked every day.
