In 1985, the first batch of Sojos was made at home in the kitchen. Our first product, Sojos Original, was referred to as a ôEuropean-Style Pet Food Mixö and was based on the teachings of Juliette de Bairacli Levy, the grandmother of herbal medicine. This first-of-its-kind pre-mix was soon followed with tasty gourmet treats. Although weÆre not using our own kitchen anymore, we have the same steadfast dedication to providing the freshest, most healthy, natural pet food and treats out there. Located in Minnesota, our family-owned business is hard at work today in our little mill, whipping up wholesome Sojos pet food and treats for your four-legged friends û one batch at a time. Our dedication to the health and wellbeing of dogs and cats everywhere includes a strict quality and sourcing protocol, where we will allow only human-grade ingredients to be used in our recipes along with freeze-dried RAW meat. We know that ôyou are what you eatö and the same can be said for companion animals. Not only have we taken strides to make the highest quality natural foods and treats, but we have gone the extra mile in making our process and our company as green as possible. From light bulbs and heating bills to our aggressive waste reduction program, we are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint. We also use packaging that is either made from recycled materials or packaging that is recyclable. Our treat boxes, for example, are made right here in Minnesota at a facility that uses 100% wind power in addition to soy based inks and our pet food bags are recyclable and 100% reusable, thanks to their zip-lock seal. As a Minnesota Waste Wise member since 2009, we have participated in various programs enabling us to find alternative solutions for ""hard to recycleö plastics such as woven bulk totes, unusable plastic bins and plastic buckets that would otherwise be sent to the landfill. As a result, we have been able to keep 3,375 pounds (almost 2 tons!!) of recyclable and hard to recycle plastics out of the landfill. We composts over 28 tons of food waste per year and we have more than tripled our cardboard recycling to over 21 tons annually. Because of these efforts, we have enjoyed a drastic 75% reduction in our trash pickups. We are pleased to say that we now divert more than 50 tons of trash annually from the landfill or incinerator, saving substantially on disposal costs and increasing environmental performance. In addition, we have incorporated sustainability into everyday business practices, looking for ways to continuously improve on waste reduction, recycling, energy efficiency and greening its supply chain.
