Product Information

By nature, dogs of all breeds and sizes are evolved as carnivores - biologically adapted for a diet rich and varied in fresh meats, with smaller amounts for fruits, vegetables and grasses. Yet as dogs age, they also become less efficient at metabolizing the very proteins vital to their well being  so appropriately high levels of dietary protein is essential for enabling your senior dog’s peak conditioning. That’s why Orijen Senior is loaded with the protein-packed animal ingredients (75%) that Mother Nature evolved all dogs to eat, with high ratios of free-run chicken and turkey, whole eggs and wild-caught fish farmed or fished locally and delivered fresh each day so they're preservative-free and brimming with proteins and fats to nourish your older dog completely. Carbohydrate-limited and grain-free to replicate your senior dog’s natural diet, Orijen Senior supplies healthful regional fruits, vegetables and botanicals including sea vegetables, juniper berries and marigold flowers naturally rich in phytonutrients, B-vitamins and essential trace minerals.

When we got our puppy, he was eating Iams, which I thought was fine. He is my first dog, which I like to refer to as the learning dog. I talked to my vet about the frequent vomiting, and they said the food is fine, give him zantac. I'm not sure they really understood, though. He was vomiting so often he was puke trained and would do it in the shower. Over the years, we've been through probably a dozen or more brands of dog food, even spending big bucks on raw food and making organic home cooked diets. We've had our ups and downs with the stomach upset, until finally, we landed on Orijen. He's 11 now, and as a beagle, definitely doesn't need any extra calories, so I chose the senior variety. He eats twice daily, and as I feed him one meal, I cover the next one with water and leave it to soak until it's time for that one to be eaten. I never thought I'd be able to say this about him, but he no longer vomits. Ever. I just hope that they never stop making this food. It has been a life changer for us.

We have a 9 year old Alaskan Malamute that has led an active life. He has the beginning stages of arthritis in his elbows so too much activity causes him to limp. We needed to give him a food where he did not have to eat a huge portion in order to get any nutritional value from it other than filling up on "fillers". He has been on a corn, wheat and soy free diet his entire life. Orijen Senior has the perfect ingredients (without fillers or allergens) to provide for him as a large breed, senior dog without adding a lot of fat to his diet, containing what he needs to continue to live a high quality life. He weighs 93lbs and eats 1.5 cups morning and night. The food provides him the proper nutrients to maintain lean muscle as well as vitamins and minerals to help his joints.

                        Best Uses

The dog food has great ingredients. The kibble is a bit too hard for senior food. My dog has a bit of a problem chewing it so I soften it a bit with chicken broth. He's had no problems with it. I just switched him from Iams to Orijen and there was no adverse reaction to the change. No diarrhea. No problems. I suggest this food for all senior dogs.

My dog is twelve years old, and I am wanting her to have the best in her senior years! It appears to be a good feed, and she enjoys it even dry, although I often add a little canned, or pumkin, and some extra filtered water to her dish.

I have noticed her stools are smaller and easy to pick up, which makes my life easier!
