Comments about Big Max Style Ceramic Fountain:
I have the ceramic version. Before this, I had a blue plastic cat water fountain with loads of little parts (the kind that sells its own brush set to clean) that was immensely time-consuming and frustrating to clean even with the brushes.
As a gift to my overworked self, I got this ceramic one with only a few smooth and well-designed parts, so it is less than 5 minutes to clean.
It's a bit larger and heavier than I expected, but that's ok. I know if I go away for a weekend, my cat will have water.
I have it resting on a couple of tea towels to catch splashes, which is a good idea. There are two ceramic pieces that rest one on top of the other, not soldered and plasticized together, so there's always a small potential for leaks. That said, it looks a lot classier and will be more long-lived (and therefore more ecological) than the plastic model.
It takes little replaceable charcoal filters similar to Brita that are reasonably priced (a couple bucks, you supposedly change 1-2 times per month). I have one cat and I clean and refill every other day with Brita water, so I only change the filter every couple of months.
If you need a cat water fountain, this is a great choice.
