                Comments about Cat Litter:

I've always hated the smell of clay based litters with their cloying perfume and always thought that all the dust was bad for the health of our cats and us too.
Aside from the annoying gravel and dust which inevitably gets everywhere, one of our cats had persistent and uncomfortable cracked skin on her paw pads.

After reading about the dangers of silica dust from clay based litter, and the environmental damage done by strip mining the clay, my suspitions were confirmed. I found many good reviews about Fresh News and hoped it would work for us.

This is a terrific product in terms of producing practically no dust (actually I don't see dust or granules ever-just the occasional pellet on the floor) and I find the smell very neutral. The pellets are very absorbent and our cats made the transition instantly. My kitty with the super dry cracked paws now has smooth healed skin. Unless you are someone who only cleans their cat's litter box very infrequently, this is an almost perfect solution for cats, humans and the planet.

As Fresh News clumps a little differently to clay, I recommend about 2" to 3" in the box and shake before removing waste as this gets the clean pellets to the top. Then, tip one end of box up a little (the clean pellets go to one side) and scoop out the heavier soiled pellets which are left on the other side.
Possibly the best thing about Fresh News, other than the health benefits, is that the litter box is a breeze to clean-just a wipe with a paper towel and disinfectant cleaner. No more chiselling off bits of cement-like clumping clay litter from the box and hosing down!

One more thing: we did the math, and with the big 25 pound bags this costs less per week than our old cat litter.

                Comments about Cat Litter:

We used to use Yesterday's News, which we noticed the Humane Society used, but it just became too expensive. When we switched to Fresh News, we found the larger-size pellets better suited; softer, less tracking. Also, the odor control seems better. Our cats like it; we will stick with this one.
